It’s been well-known for a while now that Nintendo was going to re-release the NES this fall, but little else had been revealed about it, other than the fact that it would come equipped with 30 games and the iconic, yet simplistic, controller.  The game has been changed, however, as Nintendo has released a trailer for what is now dubbed the NES Classic Edition:

Apparently, no cartridges are necessary. You simply push a button on the console, and voila. Hours of entertainment are there.

The console, only slightly bigger than your hand, comes prepped with 30 games, including all of the classics that helped to establish video game consoles as household items. These classics include The Legend of Zelda, Castlevania, Super Mario Bros., Metroid, Dr. Mario, Donkey Kong, and plenty of other games.

According to the trailer, you are allowed a few suspend points for games. Thus, if you are at an area in the game where you want to quit because you aren’t quite ready for the challenge, or realize you haven’t eaten, then you can continue directly from that point later on. A similar system is used for the Wii U’s Virtual Console games, and it comes in handy for hair-pulling classics like Ninja Gaiden.

All in all, this is a unique move for Nintendo. The market for retro games has been fairly consistent, as in there’s never a very high demand for them, nor a low demand for them by any means. However, Nintendo fans will surely be delighted for the popular console’s re-release. You can expect to see it on Nov. 11 this year at a price of $59.99.
