Bethesda asked players to break Fallout 76, and once PC gamers got their hands on it, break it they did. Some bugs are annoying, but bugs like this one give a new definition to the phrase “literally unplayable.”
It’s common to accidentally get rid of an item you don’t need, but YouTuber JuiceHead was somehow able to scrap the most essential item in Fallout 76: his Pip-Boy! Here’s how JuiceHead describes it:
“I somehow, while scrapping weapons or something, deleted my pip boy. Like, there was literally an empty spot on my arm as to where it was supposed to go.”
It’s not clear why or how this actually happened –there was no “scrap Pip-Boy” option that was selected– it just vanished from his character’s wrist while breaking down some pipe pistols.
It’s also not clear whether there’s any way to make this extremely useful item come back, save from starting a whole new character. The Pip-Boy becomes available again when JuiceHead’s character uses power armor, but for the most part, there’s still a gaping, game-altering empty space on his forearm.
This wasn’t just a texture-related mishap either. Losing the Pip-Boy had all the game-breaking repercussions you might expect from it. After the game bugged out and deleted a chunk off his character’s arm, whenever JuiceHead tried to access his Pip-Boy afterward the game would claim it was currently “unavailable”. Kinda hard to do… well, most things in FO76 without the help of your trusty RobCo device.
Fallout 76 is set to be released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on Nov. 14.
