The finalists for the first-ever Steam Awards have been announced by Valve in a blog post. The nominees were voted on by Steam users last month during the autumn sale, and the company boasted over 15 million nominations were made.

The rules on voting were simple. Anyone with a Steam account could nominate any game sold in the Steam store for any of the eight categories. The game did not have to be released in 2016, or owned by the player to be voted for.

Users could write in their own ninth category, but Valve decided to extend it to 12 categories due to overwhelming response. One category will be voted upon each day starting Dec. 22 at 10 am PT/1 pm ET, but all four write-in categories will be voted on Dec. 30. The company says winners will be announced on New Year’s Eve.
