The Nintendo Switch Online Service Will Finally Introduce Cloud Save Backups

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

Since the launch of the Nintendo Switch back in March 2017, there’s been a lot of feedback about the console’s poor handling of game data and save files. What if your console breaks and becomes irreparable? What happens to your save files then? Even with the usage of microSD cards, there’s no way to safely back up your save files.

Thankfully, Nintendo has indeed been listening, and they’ve just announced that the Switch online service will allow users to back up their data to the cloud. No information has been given about this just yet, and on the official website, it’s just stated that cloud saves will be a feature, and more will be revealed in the months to come.

In addition to that, the online service will also launch with 20 classic NES games. These include The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, and Super Mario Bros. Again, more about how these titles will work on the Switch will be revealed later.

The online service has a monthly subscription cost of $3.99, which is much lower than the PS4 and Xbox One counterparts, thankfully. There are also other pricing plans available to lower the cost slightly.

Nintendo’s Switch online service will be launching this September.
