Fable first came to the scene when the original game was released on the Xbox and PC in 2004. The quirky RPG was a hit and was praised by both gamers and critics for its charming world and fun British humor. An equally successful sequel was released in 2008 and a third installment followed in 2010.
Fable Legends was announced in 2013 and was set to be exclusive to the Xbox One. The game seemed to be coming along nicely but Fable fans were disappointed when, in May 2016, it was not only announced that the game was cancelled but also that developer Lionhead Studios would be shut down.
The future of the franchise has seemed very unsure since then but Xbox head Phil Spencer recently took to Twitter to say that there are still a lot of places the series could go. He said this in response to a fan who asked if we might ever see Fable 4.
Nothing to announce right now but I do think the IP has a lot of places it could go.

It seems there are no immediate plans for a new title, but fans will be relived to see the series hasn’t been forgotten about. Given recent cancellations of several Microsoft exclusive games like Fable Legends and Scalebound, many Xbox gamers would no doubt be thrilled if a new game were announced in the near future.
