BioWare Says You Shouldn’t Worry About Mass Effect: Andromeda’s Release Date

Will BioWare hit its current release window?

BioWare released a new trailer for Mass Effect: Andromeda at last week’s Game Awards, and many fans were disappointed that it didn’t offer up a firm release date. Despite BioWare having announced Andromeda all the way back in 2012, the same year the last game in the series released, fans still don’t know when it’s coming beyond a vague spring 2017 window.

Mass Effect: Andromeda was originally slated to release in late 2016 before slipping into that new release window, which doesn’t exactly sound rock solid. In a new interview with Eurogamer, however, Producer Fabrice Condominas indicated that BioWare would hit this target with its next RPG.

“There’s absolutely no reason to be worried,” said Condominas. “BioWare is all about quality and believe me — the team is extremely aware of how fast that is coming [laughs]. But we’re focusing on that — that’s our objective. Maybe we’ll need two extra days? When we’re 100 percent confident we can go to certification on a certain date, then we’ll give a very specific date. In the meantime, we’re focusing on quality and every day counts. We don’t want to pressure that.”

Potentially adding two additional days to the wait is obviously meant as a bit of a joke, but it’s difficult to put a wait of even two more days into perspective when you don’t know the current release date. Eurogamer speculated that it could be near the end of March when a Mass Effect novel that BioWare has previously declined to go into detail about for the sake of avoiding spoilers for the game is due out. But Director Mac Walters wasn’t willing to entertain that notion.

“The first novel which comes out is more about setting up the backstory of certain factors at the point when Ryder arrives in the galaxy,” Walters responded. “The reason I don’t want to get into story stuff is, honestly, these things are better played or in this case read. It’s better if you fall in love with them or hate them for yourself – that’s more where that comment was coming from.”
