The Hard-Boiled Heavies know how to jam.

Just because our publisher and founder irrationally hates Sonic the Hedgehog, doesn’t mean she speaks for the rest of staff here at Twinfinite! I will valiantly defend the blue blur in all matters expect Sonic Boom and Sonic 06 (sorry). I will especially come down on anyone that dares to bad mouth Sonic’s amazing musical track record which appears to be ready for another high mark with the impending release of Sonic Mania.

The official Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube posted a new soundtrack from Sonic Mania today called “Theme of the Hard-Boiled Heavies” which appears to be a track that plays for a new reoccurring boss of some kind.

In addition to being predictably catchy and groovy,  it also sounds like it could easily be a track from Sonic CD, as it has a very similar musical vibe. Christian Whitehead, Sonic Mania’s lead programmer, is very familiar with Sonic CD having handled the acclaimed remaster back in 2011. So it wouldn’t be surprising at all if he had some influence in the musical direction of the game with a soft spot for Sonic CD’s style.

Sonic Mania is due out on Aug. 15 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
