The Return to Vana’diel campaign begins today and runs until Nov. 24, allowing any players who have ever paid for a subscription to Final Fantasy XI to come back and play for free. The PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 versions of the game are no longer online, but the game is so old that any modern PC or laptop should be able to run the game. Those that played back in the day may remember the cumbersome task of setting up a PlayOnline account; unfortunately, this is still required to be able to log in. Troubleshooting queries as well as terms and conditions of the campaign can be found on the PlayOnline website. A link to download the game can be found here. Be sure to download all four folders before running the install, otherwise you’ll run into some problems.

For newcomers to the old game, Square Enix is running a discount campaign where you can purchase the Final Fantasy XI: Ultimate Seekers Edition for a reduced price of $9.99, down from $24.99. This is the final released version of the game and comes with all five expansions and all six add-ons. This allows you to experience all 15 years of Final Fantasy XI content in one package. It also comes with a 30 day free trial, so you can jump straight into playing it after the download has finished. This campaign also begins today and ends on Nov. 30.

However, the process of creating a Final Fantasy XI account is much more difficult than it should be. If you have any problems logging into the game, let us know in the comments below, and we’ll help out the best we can.
