Nintendo and Bethesda announced a strange collaboration during the reveal for the Switch that ended up being a Switch port of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The idea to port over a 6 year old game was odd and was definitely not expected of Bethesda. At Bethesda’s E3 press conference, they showed off a bit more of the Switch port, announcing that the game would come bearing exclusive content from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. You’ll be able to not only wear Link’s outfit, but you can carry around the Master Sword and Link’s shield.
Geoff Keighley spoke with Pete Hines (Bethesda) about the collaboration and just how the inclusion of Link’s outfit made it into the game:
“… talked to the Breath of the Wild folks, and they were big Skyrim fans themselves and loved the idea. We really wanted to kind of do an integration with them – their open world thing, our open world thing. It was a lot of fun. They were great with providing us with all kinds of assets to make it feel like a cool, unique thing for Skyrim.”
Two big open-world games coming together like this is always something cool to see. Maybe collaborations like this and Mario + Rabbids will entice other publishers to team up with Nintendo and create some interesting new content for the future of the Switch.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be launching for the Nintendo Switch sometime this holiday season.
