Injustice 2 hasn’t even been available for everyone for more than two full days and pro player Dominique “SonicFox” Mclean may have already uncovered a pretty big balancing issue. SonicFox is a widely respected name in the fighting game community and he seems to easily dominate his opponents in nearly every game he picks up. It’s only to be expected since he is the top ranked Mortal Kombat player in the world right now. Despite having such an impressive track record, however, his latest string of gameplay videos has little to do with SonicFox’s incredible ability to read his enemies. This time around the real star of the show was Deadshot himself.
Deadshot has a kit that lends itself incredibly well to zoning—just like many other characters in the game. The problem is that Deadshot might be a little too good at zoning. So good that players have yet to find a way to get closer to a player like SonicFox who has the arsenal of a hero like Deadshot. Not because of sheer talent or strategy but because Deadshot can literally keep firing across the entire screen, forcing his foes to just keep blocking or make failed attempts to close the gap. While there are a few moments when enemies can put pressure on SonicFox in the very beginning of the match, it seems impossible to get close again once he has created space with Deadshot’s never ending barrage of bullets. In fact, the only time players were able to get close to SonicFox during the match again is when he decided to give the guns a break in exchange for a combo or an attempt at a grab. Other than that, the video is an entire 16 minutes and 22 seconds of heroes getting helplessly blasted in the face.

It’s still very early in the game’s lifespan so maybe other professional players will be able to find a way to deal with Deadshot, especially when he’s in the hands of a player like SonicFox. NetherRealm has never been one to introduce balancing patches very early in the life of their games so it’s likely Deadshot won’t be seeing the nerf bat any time soon. Of course, some would argue that it’s up to players to find the right matchup to deal with this kind of tricky strategy.
So what do you think? Does Deadshot need to get a visit from the nerf bat or do you think the right character matchups and talented players could easily shut down this never-ending chain of bullets?
