The company formally announced the game this week, which was previously known as Project Sonic 2017 since its announcement at last year’s Sonic the Hedgehog 25th anniversary event during the San Diego Comic-Con. In the brief trailer below, the camera sits behind Sonic as he runs straight through apocalyptic city streets while barreling past robotic enemies using spin dashes and homing attacks.

The game will contain two versions of Sonic from different eras of the franchise, taking a cue from 2011’s Sonic Generations. One will have 2D levels with the Sonic design of the original Sega Genesis games, and the other features 3D levels reminiscent of modern Sonic games after Sonic Adventure for the Sega Dreamcast.

Sonic Forces launches on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC in Holiday 2017. Sega is also working on a 2D entry called Sonic Mania and is releasing for the same platforms this summer.
