Sea of Solitude Gets Director's Cut Port for Nintendo Switch

The moody and introspective indie game Sea of Solitude is making its way to the Nintendo Switch, and those who pick up the port will have more than just the base game to look forward to.

During the 2020 Game Awards held on Dec. 10, it was revealed that the port was in the works and planned for release on Mar. 4, 2021. The port will offer a slew of new features not available in the base game released in 2019. These features include a revised script, new character voices to choose from, a new photo mode, Gyroscope support and more features that will be revealed later on.

It has not yet been confirmed whether or not the director’s cut will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One or PC, but we’ll update the article accordingly if it is confirmed for those platforms.

The announcement came alongside a new trailer to celebrate the occasion. Acting as a highlight reel of what Sea of Solitude offers, it shows off several of protagonist Kay’s monsters, which range from docile and timid to ferocious and deadly. All the while, Kay confides in the player about them; or, more specifically, how she knows them and wants to face them down.

It’s a nice refresher of what the game offers for existing fans as well as a good glimpse at what playing the game is like for those who haven’t checked it out yet. The full trailer can be viewed down below.

Originally released in 2019 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, Sea of Solitude is an indie game centered around Kay, a young woman who must traverse a massive expanse of water in order to tame the monsters manifested by her emotions. The game received general praise from critics and players for its art style and storytelling.

Sea of Solitude is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and is planned for release on Nintendo Switch on Mar. 4, 2021. For more on the game, check out our review of its initial release version from last year.
