Rockstar Games announced today that the multiplayer component for the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 will be called Red Dead Online and is launching after the game is released.
Few details were given about the online connected mode, though it will allow players to explore the open world of Red Dead Redemption 2 together. The online mode will be available for all Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners of Red Dead Redemption 2. Similar to the publisher’s other always online multiplayer mode, Grand Theft Auto Online, Red Dead Online will also be constantly updated.
“Red Dead Online is an evolution of the classic multiplayer experience in the original Red Dead Redemption, blending narrative with competitive and cooperative gameplay in fun new ways,” Rockstar wrote. “Using the gameplay of the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 as a foundation, Red Dead Online will be ready to be explored alone or with friends, and will also feature constant updates and adjustments to grow and evolve this experience for all players.”
Red Dead Online is scheduled to launch sometime in mid-November, which places it a few weeks after the game releases on Oct. 26 for both platforms. It is being billed as a public beta, and Rockstar says there “will inevitably be some turbulence at launch” considering the problems the publisher had with the initial launch of GTA Online.
