After selling through over $725 million in worldwide retail in the game’s first three days, Red Dead Redemption 2 became the second-highest grossing entertainment installment launch ever. It comes in second only to its brother title, Grand Theft Auto V, which Rockstar Games also developed and released in 2013.

While $725 million is nothing to scoff at, GTAV still swamped the launch day sales of Red Dead Redemption 2 by more than 33 percent. GTAV hit $1 billion in retail sell-through in just three days. Still though, Red Dead Redemption 2 holds the title of largest weekend entertainment launch of all-time, although that’s because GTAV launched on a Tuesday while Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on a Friday.

Not only did Red Dead Redemption 2 break industry-wide records, it also broke some records for Sony Interactive Entertainment. According to SIE, the game has the highest number of PSN pre-orders, the highest day one digital sales and the highest digital sales for a game’s first three days on the market.

It’s easy to understand why SIE would be tooting Red Dead Redemption 2’s horn — after all, SIE and Rockstar Games partnered up to give PS4 players first and early access to select online content in Red Dead Online, which launches this November.

With a Metacritic score of 97, making it not only one of the most critically-acclaimed games of this generation, but of all-time as well, Red Dead Redemption 2 took the video game world by storm, now confirmed both critically and financially. On top of these accolades, Red Dead Redemption 2 also holds the title of biggest entertainment launch of 2018.
