The developer had promised its anticipated Red Dead Online portion of the game would certainly release in November, and they’ve delivered… just.

The beta will actually launch in a staggered fashion. It is only available to owners of the Ultimate Edition initially, then to those who played the game at launch a day later, for those that played during its first three days on the 29th, before finally opening up to everyone else Nov. 30.

Described by Rockstar as “an evolution of the classic multiplayer experience in the original Red Dead Redemption, blending narrative with competitive and cooperative gameplay in fun new ways.” We’re not entirely sure whether the mode will follow a specific storyline beyond the beta, but Rockstar has mentioned players will be able to create and customize their character and “tailor” their playstyle according to preference.

Gameplay involved joining a gang up to eight-players strong to battle rivals in “spontaneous skirmishes and pitched set-piece battles.” You’ll also be able to engage in all the other activities offered in the single-player campaign, too, such as hunting and fishing.

Red Dead Redemption 2’s online multiplayer mode is free across both Xbox One and PS4 — although the PS4 version is set to benefit from select exclusive content.
