Fire Emblem Heroes Launch Celebration Live

Free gems for everyone!
This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

Fire Emblem Heroes’ first official event is now live. To commemorate a stellar launch, Fire Emblem Heroes players will be treated to 5 weeks of celebration maps. Unlike the daily Hero Battle mode, each map will be up for a week. Normal mode contains level 5 enemies and takes 5 stamina, while Hard mode requires 10 stamina and contains level 15 enemies. Each battle will give 3 gems upon completion, for a total of 6 gems each week. This means by March 5th, players will have an additional 30 gems, which is enough for a full five unit summon, with 10 gems leftover, already halfway toward another full summon.

This comes as a bit of relief to free-to-play players, as many were unsure how many gems would be earnable after the initial playthroughs of the story mode. While this is still very early on in the game’s lifespan, it’s no indication that 30 free gems a month will be consistent. These gacha-type games generally give enough paid currency free of charge to get players started but will wean off later on (i.e. Pokemon Duel) in order to encourage in-game purchases. Nintendo does seem devoted to keeping Fire Emblem Heroes going and has promised story updates once every two weeks and has also stated that more characters will be added to the game through future updates.

In addition, Fire Emblem Warriors, the second Nintendo hack-and-slash title under the Warriors franchise (the first being Hyrule) made popular by Dynasty Warriors, and an unnamed title is coming to the Nintendo Switch some time in 2017 and 2018 respectively. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, a remake of 1992’s Japan exclusive Fire Emblem Gaiden will be released on April 20th, 2017 worldwide for the Nintendo 3DS. With Nintendo finally making a heavy push for Fire Emblem, there will undoubtedly be crossover promotions and future events to help market new games. The success of Fire Emblem Heroes can generate interest in the franchise, as a fraction of the player base have never touched a Fire Emblem game before so here’s to hoping they treat the mobile title with love and respect instead of a quick cash cow.
