Planet of the Apes will soon be making its way to gaming with a newly announced cinematic adventure game titled Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier. The title is developed by Imaginati Studios, a newly formed game division of Imaginarium Productions, the studio that worked on motion capture technology for all three Planet of the Apes films.
In fact, Last Frontier will make use of the very same motion capture facilities used in the films. The title is set roughly one year after the events of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and it tells the story of a rogue faction of apes who break away and try to survive the human-ape war by living in the Rocky Mountains. The game is described as a cinematic adventure, meaning that gameplay almost exclusively takes the role of making decisions, with multiple endings and rapid fire decisions throughout the experience. IGN has a preview up for Last Frontier that sheds a little more light on this fact,
“The pace of the storytelling is just super-intense compared to any of these other games. There’s no opening and closing drawers, no searching through inventories. It’s all about you making choices that affect relationships with other characters and, in the long term, how those relationships play out, and how the story plays out. It’s a creative risk, but when we talked to everyone on the team, they really believed in it. It would have been very easy for us to copy what had gone before.”
Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier is schedules to launch sometime this Fall on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Take a look at the reveal trailer as well as six minutes of gameplay down below, also courtesy of IGN.
