Switch is the future.
This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

The mainline Pokemon RPG series has always been present on Nintendo’s handheld systems, from the Game Boy to the 3DS. Whenever the question about putting the Pokemon games on console came up, Game Freak would always respond with how perfect the handheld systems work with the core RPG series. We recently received the news that the next mainline Pokemon RPG is in development for the Switch, and in an interview with IGN, Game Freak has stated that Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will not only be the “culmination” of all of their work on the 3DS, but will be the the last Pokemon RPG that the 3DS sees.

We didn’t get much news about the new Pokemon RPG on Switch besides the fact that it will have all of the core features of the mainline games, like catching, battling, and training. With development of the series shifting gears to the Switch, there’s so much more that the team will be able to accomplish. Game Freak director Shigeru Ohmori feels like the team pushed the limits of the 3DS with Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, “we’ve tried to eke that out more and really, really push the system to its absolute limits, and we’re now feeling that perhaps this is the maximum of what we can get out. So we’re really treating Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon as the culmination of our work with the 3DS system.”

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon launch for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems on Nov. 17.
