Sony reportedly doesn’t have any plans on the table for a PlayStation 5, according to video game veteran developer Lorne Lanning.
Speaking on the latest Game Informer Podcast, Lanning revealed that he spoke with Shuhei Yoshida about the PlayStation 5 back at the DICE Awards in February 2015, and was somewhat surprised by what he heard.
“I said, ‘What does the PlayStation 5 look like?’ And he said, ‘You mean if…’ And I was like ‘Woah. Are you willing to say that on stage?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, it’s an if.'” Lanning told the Game Informer Podcast this week.
However the topic was never brought up on stage at the DICE Awards during the Yoshida/Lanning presentation, which would have been the stage the Lanning was referring to in the above statement.
“It was a really interesting thing; he didn’t give me a clear answer, but he’s hinting at, ‘We need to be more agile, none of us know what the future really looks like so how do we adapt to it faster?'” Lanning further stated. “To me, that’s the way he was sort of thinking about it, which I think is the right way to think about it.”
This all comes in the aftermath of yet another leak that points to Sony developing a more powerful version of the PlayStation 4. You can find the full list of rumors for the ‘PS4.5’ here.
