PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ Release Has Been Delayed

But it's still coming this year.

Multiplayer shooter PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds won’t see its proper release within six months of its Steam Early Access release as originally planned. Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene announced on the game’s Steam page that he was pushing back the launch but that it would still happen sometime in 2017.

“Over the past few months I have done a lot of interviews, and in many of them, I said we hoped to be out of Early Access six months after we first launched,” wrote Greene. “I’ve come to realize that restricting the window to a specific month could hinder us from delivering a fully featured game and/or lead to disappointment within the community if the launch deadline is not met.

“So, we have decided that we are going push the full launch back a bit from the initial six-month timeframe, but want to assure you that we are still planning a full release before the end of Q4 2017.”

Battlegrounds’ Early Access release came on March 17, so gamers can now expect its full release sometime between September 18 and December 30. Greene is also readying an Xbox One release for the game during holiday 2017, with a PlayStation 4 launch following sometime later.

Gamers have already bought up more than four million copies of the Battlegrounds’ Early Access version in just over three months.
