Overwatch’s Numbani Map Updated with Tease for New Hero

Oh, here we go.
This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

The game has begun, it seems, for the slow reveal of Overwatch’s next hero.

It all began last week, when Blizzard posted an “interview” with one of Numbani’s (the setting of one of the game’s maps) up-and-coming inventors, 11-year-old Efi Oladele, teasing a new hero and launching new theories over whether the newest hero is a mechanical spider.

Earlier this week, Blizzard posted the following image on Twitter, announcing the encased Doomfist that players transport across the Numbani map had been stolen in a violent airport altercation.

Well, that fake report was indeed un-fake news, as Overwatch’s PTR (public test region) servers on the PC version have been updated to reflect these changes on the map, as pointed out by redditor HilmNova.

A betting man would assume that Doomfist himself, rumored to be voiced by the world’s muscular dad Terry Crews, has stolen back his namesake and will be the next hero joining the cast, except that a comment made on the game’s forums earlier this month by game director Jeff Kaplan suggests this won’t be the case. “24 is not who you think it is,” Kaplan said.

So, that’s where we are right now. An 11-year-old inventor, a busted-up airport, and a stolen Doomfist. Many fans are already agreeing that these developments have been more interesting than the slow reveal of Sombra through ARG last year.

But regardless of your thoughts on who the next hero could be, dropping visual updates on a map like this is infinitely cool.
