PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is ridiculously popular, and that’s part of its problem. It’s experienced several frustrating server issues over the past month or so, keeping players from logging in and staying online or accessing the servers at all. Developer Bluehole has come forward to explain why this is going on, offering an apology for the issues that have plagued players thus far.
An official blog post on the Bluehole website featured the apology from the developer, stating the following:
“We would like to sincerely apologize to everyone for the recent server issues which resulted in long waits and any inconveniences. Our development team has been continuously upgrading the service architecture to address the increasing concurrent player numbers and tackle any emerging issues. Despite our daily efforts, there were some unexpected issues during peak times and we were unable to resolve some of the issues as fast as we would have wanted to.”
Bluehole went on to explain that a heavy server load was expected when the game had been in development, with the service built to accept up to a million players online at once. When the player count exploded at 1.65 million players recently, Bluehole announced it had been working on new server infrastructure to help support the massive amount of players trying to get online, but it hasn’t been able to keep up with the demand.
Bluehole is going to be preparing servers “far more in advance” so they can accommodate more players than before, and is working on improving things further so that these issues don’t rear their ugly heads again in the future.
It also explained the recent server issues in Asian, where the cloud service employed there for PUBG players was not tested as well as it could have been. Bluehole is investigating the issue so that it doesn’t happen again going forward.
“The entire development team is doing their best to make sure all PUBG players in the world can play PUBG smoothly whenever they want,” Bluehole summarized near the end of its pot. “Again, we would like to sincerely apologize to all the players who experienced any inconveniences due to server problems or connection errors. Please rest assured that we have doubled our efforts to improve the quality of the service. On a side note, we have been continuously working on optimization and doing our best to make gradual improvements.”
