NPD Reveals Star Wars: Battlefront II Has Had “Disappointing” Sales

The bad news just never stops.

November wasn’t a good month for Electronic Arts. With public outcry over Star Wars: Battlefront II getting to the point that lawmakers are now looking into loot boxes, the company losing 3.1 billion dollars of stock, and the company dealing with constant scrutiny, things only seem to be continuing going down hill. Earlier today, Wall Street journalist Sarah E. Needleman reported that according to the NPD, Star Wars: Battlefront II has had disappointing sales.

It is important to note that the NPD only tracks physical sales and has not yet been fully released, but according to Needleman the game has only sold 882,000 units, a 61 percent drop-off from sales for 2015’s Battlefront.

Needleman wrote:

US console video game sales rose 9% in November from a year ago to $842M, led by Activision’s new “Call of Duty: WWII” with 4.4M units sold, according to NPD. But it was a disappointing month for Electronic Arts, whose high-profile “Star Wars Battlefront II,” which debuted about two weeks later, sold just 882,000 units, the research firm estimates.

With the rise of digital sales in recent years it’s very likely that the numbers aren’t quite that abysmal overall, but it doesn’t bode well for a game that was slated to be one of EA’s biggest launches of the year. Though the game does still have a chance to turn this around with the Holiday season and the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. One thing is certain however, Star Wars: Battlefront II has had a very lackluster first month.
