UK Retailers Feel That the Nintendo NX Should Be Priced Under £200

How much are you willing to pay?
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

Yesterday brought the rumor that Pokémon, Mario, and Zelda could all be headed to the Nintendo NX within its first six months and that Nintendo was working with third parties to round out the lineup. The report also stated that the supposedly mobile-home hybrid console would have graphical horsepower that fell somewhere between the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation 4. That begs the question of just how much should gamers expect to pay for a new console that’s not quite up to current-gen standards.

Well, according to UK retailers, the Nintendo NX should sell for a sub-£200 (about $260), reports MCV. Every single retailer surveyed (MCV doesn’t note how many that is) believes that this price range is “essential” for Nintendo to claw its way back to success after the disastrous retail performance of the Wii U.

“The games industry sorely misses a strong Nintendo,” said one major buyer. “If the NX reports are true, I’m optimistic. But only if the machine is significantly cheaper than PS4 and Xbox One.”

Another retail executive believes that “NX could be exactly what the market needs. A £150 to £200 price point would guarantee a far stronger start than either the Wii U or 3DS.”

Nintendo itself has yet to even confirm or deny the rampant rumors that its NX console will be playable both on the go and at home on TV screens, let alone touch on what the price point for the machine will be. The company is targeting a March 2017 launch, and some reports have linked it to a full unveiling next month, possibly at Tokyo Game Show.
