The Last of Us: Part 2 Was Hinted at in September Very Quietly

You will have heard by now that The Last of Us: Part 2 has been revealed, with a very nice trailer at the tail end of Sony’s PlayStation Experience last week.

What you may not realize, and what many fans are now clocking on to, is that back in September Naughty Dog actually released a poster teasing the game. The poster depicts an arm (we can now asssume belonging to Ellie) holding a switchblade knife, with fern branches wrapped around her wrists, and butterflies hovering and perched on the blade itself.

Take a look:

The Last of Us: Part 2

Naughty Dog teamed up with famous Austin based designer Mondo, and released the poster on the Naughty Dog official site to coincide with the annual “Outbreak Day” celebrations on Sept. 26.

Though the poster only says “The Last of Us”, it displays the same tattoo shown off in the reveal trailer belonging to Ellie, and with her somewhat sinister declaration that she is going to “kill them all”, we can perhaps assume the knife is symbolic of that hatred. The poster is no longer available to buy from Mondo, as it was produced in limited numbers.

This isn’t the first time Naughty Dog has been very sneaky with its hints: during Uncharted 3 when Nate finds himself in a London pub, there is a newspaper on the bar that reads, “scientists are still struggling to understand deadly fungus”. We will all have to be extra vigilant from here on out.
