New Kickstarter For RPG Set In The Messenger Universe Launches Today

The 2018 indie darling The Messenger, developed by Sabotage Studio, was a hit. Their ninja platformer that jumped between 8-bit and 16-bit pixel art animation was pretty great; now the studio is trying their hand at a turn-based RPG, called Sea of Stars.

Announced on Twitter today, Sabotage Studio revealed the Kickstarter for a prequel story to The Messenger.

Inspired by 90’s turn-based RPGs like Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana, Sea of Stars tells the story of two Children of Solstice who will combine the powers of the sun and moon to combat the evil Fleshmancer.

The intricate pixel art is simply gorgeous, turning the look of a nostalgic RPG up to 11. Sabotage boasts that the game may even make you cry, and will certainly make you laugh.

Being a prequel to The Messenger means there will be some shared characters between the two, with some origin stories being fleshed out. If you liked The Messenger, chances are you should be excited about Sea of Stars.

The Kickstarter launched this morning, March 19, and will run until April 18, with a goal of $90,760. As this is being written, only several hours after the launch of the Kickstarter, the game is already well on their way to their goal.

As of this moment, the game is set to release in 2022 on all platforms; however, Sabotage acknowledges that the platforms will change between now and then, and that this may not end up being the final situation.
