Pokemon has certainly had one incredible year with its 20th anniversary, Pokemon Go, and the release of Pokemon Sun and Moon which has officially set a new record for the series. The games had a stellar launch, and the new NPD report for November confirms that Sun and Moon had the biggest launch in the franchise’s history. (Thanks Venture Beat.)
Pokemon Sun and Moon sold 8 percent more units than the previous best selling combo title in the series, Pokemon Black and White, even though the new games had 19 fewer days on the market during the month.
Additionally it looks like Sun and Moon may have boosted the sales of the 3DS itself, as the system had the highest monthly physical software spending in its history. It was 1 percent higher than the previous record set in December 2014. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare took the number one spot for sales, however, if you combine the sales of Sun and Moon then Pokemon surpasses it. It’s interesting to think about the impact that Pokemon Go may have had on the newest titles.
