When we heard that Keiji Inafune was kickstarting a spiritual successor to Mega Man, fans were excited to see the return of the blue bomber but in the form of Mighty No. 9. But the game released on almost every console under the sun and was unfortunately met with mostly negative reception.

Level-5 president and CEO Akihiro Hino, and Comcept founder Keiji Inafune announced during a Famitsu interview (translated via Gematsu) that Level-5 has acquired Comcept, and the subsidiary is now known as Level-5 Comcept. Apparently, the not so successful launch of Mighty No. 9 was not the key factor in this merging, there have been talks between Hino and Inafune since 2013 about working together in some way.

Comcept updated the backers of Mighty No. 9 about the 3DS and PS Vita versions that have yet to be released but were promised to be made back during the kickstarter campaign. “Hand Held versions – They are not being cancelled, we are still in the process of porting. The porting had to be put on hold for a while due to the other versions being delayed and the recent adjustment we had in Comcept. However, everything is back on track now… We estimate to release them within 2017 (it could be earlier, but it’s hard to estimate a more precise date at this point).”

The Mighty No. 9 team also hints that the characters from their game like Beck might be present in future Level-5 titles. “This does not affect Mighty No. 9 in any way, but who knows, maybe in the future Beck, and your favorite LEVEL-5 characters may be tagging along in new adventures? The possibilities are limitless here.”
