Prices for card packs in Blizzard’s Hearthstone are about to get a little more expensive for players living outside North America. The company is increasing pack prices for select currencies across all platforms starting March 22. Players from Europe and Asia can see the updated prices here.
“We’d like to let everyone know that we’ll soon be adjusting the pricing of Hearthstone purchases made through the PC, Mac and Android clients, and through the Battle.net Shop,” Blizzard announced in a forum post. “We regularly look at our pricing around the world, and from time to time we make changes such as these to align with local and regional market conditions.”
Hearthstone’s latest expansion, Journey to Un’Goro, will not be affected by the price increase until after launch, the company said. The expansion, containing 135 new cards, is available to pre-purchase 50 packs for $49.99 and releases in “mid April.” Hearthstone has offered the same pre-launch pack bundle for previous expansions.
The Hearthstone community has not taken the price adjustment lightly and have voiced their displeasure through various threads on the official Hearthstone subreddit.
Reddit user War_Master_WM has been compiling current pack prices for most countries to compare with the new increase. The British pound (GBP) has seen the highest increase so far with the cost of two packs increasing to £2.99, or $3.64 USD compared to the US’s $2.99.
A reason for the pound’s higher price may be the United Kingdom’s announcement to withdraw from the European Union last year, which caused the value of the pound to fall dramatically. Other consumer electronics have seen extraordinary price increases since the announcement, such as Apple’s MacBook laptop line and the newly released Nintendo Switch.
