Materia Collective is a music label known for helping musicians and artists publish video game related music and remixes, and they’ve just dropped Kingdom Heartbeats.
As you might’ve guessed from the title, this is a collection of remixed tracks featuring music from Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts series.
The album was a collaborative effort from RoboRob, tofuku, arthur x medic, and other composers. It opens up with a cover of the now-iconic Simple and Clean from Utada Hikaru, featuring vocals by tofuku.
Kingdom Heartbeats is themed around electronic music, so it might not necessarily appeal to series fans who loved the mellow and melodic nature of Yoko Shimomura’s original tracks. If you are, however, an EDM fan, these are some seriously fun and interesting takes on Kingdom Hearts’ most popular tracks.
The Traverse Town remix is a personal favorite of mine, and the electronic take on Dearly Beloved is a close runner-up.
The album features a total of 10 remixed tracks, and is now available for digital purchase on Bandcamp. The album is also available for purchase if you want a physical copy in the form of a compact disc or vinyl package, which is always sweet, and will be shipping out later in the year.
