Hajime Tabata, the director of Final Fantasy XV, has said that there aren’t any plans at Square Enix to bring the game to the Nintendo Switch.
Tabata gave an interview with DualShockers, in which he said that there aren’t plans to port the game to the Switch; although, that isn’t necessarily because the Switch isn’t capable of running it – the developer hasn’t tested it on the Switch at all. “It might run… But we haven’t conducted the proper tests on whether it would run properly on Switch or not, so I cannot say for sure.”
As has been the case with a number of other developers, Tabata did indicate interest in Nintendo’s hybrid: “There are no plans for Switch at the moment, but overall, there is interest in the platform among the development team. We do have lots of Nintendo fans inside BD2.”
Square Enix has already provided software support for the Switch at launch, by way of I Am Setsuna and Dragon Quest XI, which though previously released on other platforms, pads out what would have been a pretty thin launch.
This is bad news for those who yearned to go on the road with Noctis and pals … out on the road, but all eyes will be on the Switch in its first year to see if this “interest” materializes into exciting software.
