Assassin’s Creed Odyssey had its big reveal at Ubisoft’s E3 2018 conference, and during the show-proper, Twinfinite was able to go hands-on with the game for about an hour. We got a very decent flavor for the various new mechanics and systems that distinguish Odyssey from its predecessor and explore some of the beautiful Greek islands that comprise its (huge) map.
In fact, given just how large Assassin’s Creed Origins’ map was (among the largest open-world games this generation), we were keen to see how Odyssey would compare. Check out our video below to see what a massive map this really is. It’s essentially the entire Greek mainland and surrounding islands recreated – certainly not one to one, but possibly an even bigger explorable area than Origins.
One of Odyssey’s key new features is a mechanic lifted from Far Cry 5 in which players must weaken enemy islands before taking on their local leader. As a result, hopping from island to island to liberate each from hostile forces will comprise a large part of the optional activities outside of the main quest.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey comes out later this year, Oct. 5, available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. You can watch our full Q&A that features plenty of new information on gameplay, story, and romance options here.
