A YouTuber by the handle Miscellany is responsible for what may be the harmonious evolution of the infamous Crash Bandicoot “woah!” meme. In case you’re not exactly knowledgeable about what’s cool on the internet these days, this sensation can be traced back to the release of the long-awaited Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy – a remaster of Crash Bandicoot’s first three games – earlier this summer.
Found below, the medley was requested by another YouTuber by the name of JasonParadise and syncs together the meme’s best fan-made musical memes together in one playable Guitar Hero track. Featured mash-ups include “Chop Suey!” by System of a Down, “All Star” by Smash Mouth, “Blue” by Eiffel 65, “Bring Me to Life” by Evanescence, and, of course, “We Are Number One” from Nickelodeon’s television series Lazytown. Crash’s “woah!” cries are a note in each song, making for quite the memorable experience, to say the least.
Note that the song is not an official release from Activision and is entirely fan-made. Whether or not it’ll be picked up by the publisher as a newest addition to Guitar Hero Live remains to be seen, but the chances are pretty unlikely. One can dream though.
The Crash “woah!” meme began when YouTube content creators began splicing together clips of the titular character exclaiming the phrase in montage format. Its mass circulation was made easy when someone uploaded a video of the mascot declaring “woah!” in front of a green screen, allowing everyone to use the meme for their own devious purposes.
Activision doesn’t seem to mind, as this is only driving more publicity and sales success for the trilogy remaster. For now, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is available exclusively for PlayStation 4.
