343 Industries has announced on Halo Waypoint that the PC physical version of Halo Wars 2 has been cancelled for a North American release.
Last month it was revealed that THQ Nordic was partnering up with 343 Industries and Microsoft Studios for a physical release of Halo Wars 2 on PC. However, since then Microsoft has decided to sell the physical retail version of the anticipated sequel exclusively in Europe.
The physical release offers both a Standard and Ultimate edition. The Ultimate Edition pictured above also includes a season pass, four-day early access to the game, and a remaster of Halo Wars: Definitive Edition playable on PC and Xbox One.
343 Industries community manager Brian Jarrard stated, “We apologize to any customers affected by the change in our retail plans, and thank everyone for the continued support as we look forward to the release of Halo Wars 2,” calling THQ Nordic a “great partner”.
Halo Wars 2 will still be available digitally on PC and both physically and digitally on Xbox One worldwide. The title is also a Xbox Play Anywhere game, meaning if its purchased digitally on PC or Xbox One then save files can be accessed and transferred to both systems with cross-platform support.
Halo Wars 2 releases on Feb. 21 for $59.99, with the Ultimate edition granting early access on Feb. 17 for $79.99.
