Borderlands 3 Is Out of Pre-Production, Gearbox Confirms

The wait for Borderlands 3 has been quite a long one. 2012’s Borderlands 2 was an amazing game, and while 2014’s Pre-Sequel and Tales from the Borderlands offerings are fun in their own right…c’mon, we need a true sequel.

At PAX East today during their panel, Gearbox’s studio head Randy Pitchford was asked about a new entry in the series. He replied with “obviously”, and later said that the third entry in the series has left pre production and the team is at work on it. It’ll be the next game to release after their upcoming hero shooter Battleborn, due out in May.

Pitchford later went on to say that Battleborn will have Easter Eggs for the game via DLC story packs. If there was ever incentive to check out Battleborn’s DLC, that’s one hell of a way to get people interested, no?

A release date for Borderlands 3 wasn’t given, but odds are good for a 2017 or 2018 release. Now we’ve got to play the waiting game….
