According to Superdata Research, Fortnite Battle Royale’s February revenue totaled $126 million last month through in app purchases alone, with the game still following a free to play model. This is compared to PUBG’s $103 million, which in contrast relied on software sales through Steam.

This marks the first time the free to play game has surpassed PUBG in overall revenue, but follows the trend of Fortnite’s growing popularity. Since its release in September of last year, Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode has quickly developed a strong following across several sectors of gaming media, with celebrities and streaming personalities alike showing their support for the game. The title currently sits at the number one spot for both games viewed and games streamed on Twitch, with some streamers even bringing in as much as $500,000 per month by playing the game on the streaming platform.

PUBG, meanwhile, has seen its player base declining despite strong sales and has started to lag behind its competition in terms of Twitch views. One of the biggest factors for this among critics is an ongoing issue with cheaters, which contributed to the banning of 1 million players in January.

Fortnight Battle Royale is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Mobile. For more on the game, check out the recently revealed replay mode headed to the game in the near future.
