Sony is now accepting beta testers for their latest PlayStation 4 firmware update, 5.50, throughout the month of January.

Set to accept applicants from Japan, the U.S. and Europe until Jan. 23, the beta will test the the first update for the system of 2018. Applicants must be 18 years or older, have access to the master PSN account and have a reliable internet connection. Should any errors occur with the new update at any time, beta testers can return to the previous firmware version.

Though no information on the new firmware update have been revealed at this time, details typically follow shortly after the end of the beta’s period. Changes typically involve the addition of minor tweaks and enhancements to how the system handles software, as well as fixes for regularly occurring bugs and errors. Other times, updates can offer major tweaks and improvements to how the system handles streaming services and other apps.
