Medieval hack and slash fighting game For Honor will be getting dedicated servers for its multiplayer on Feb. 19, Ubisoft announced today.
The date is set for the PC version, with consoles following “soon after.” According to the Ubisoft press release, the delay is to “ensure a smooth transition” on PC before moving the technology onto consoles. The studio had set up an open beta to test dedicated servers last December for all players, including those who did not own the game.
Ubisoft says the dedicated servers will “fully remove” session migrations and NAT requirements for more stable PvP games and improved matchmaking. For Honor was plagued with connection issues at launch, and even caused a proposed boycott by the game’s subreddit community two months later.
“Changing the online infrastructure while the game was live was a challenge, but a decisive step in improving the game experience of our players,” said game director Damien Kieken. “The implementation of the dedicated servers gives us confidence in the direction the game is taking and will pave the way for a full year of continued support and new contents.”
The infrastructure changes come alongside the first anniversary of the game and its fifth season, titled Age of Wolves, beginning Feb. 15. The new season brings changes to player progression, new training modes, and a three-week seasonal event containing extra rewards and loot.
