First Half-Life: Alyx Trailer Reveals Launch Window

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Half-Life is back, and true to the series’ roots it is as ambitious and forward-thinking as ever. Except, this time it’s not a conventional video game. Half-Life Alyx is a VR spin-off that was announced earlier this week by Valve, and today it has a brand new trailer showcasing the first look at gameplay and revealing new details about its story and setting.

Importantly, it also confirms the game’s launch window as March 2020.

In the trailer, we get to see Alyx speaking with an NPC companion, who if I’m not mistaken is being voiced by New Zealand actor Rhys Darby.

We also get a good look at combat and puzzle-solving gameplay, too, giving us a flavor for how we’ll be interacting with weapons and objects from a VR perspective using Index.

A press release sent to Twinfinte tees up the story and premise of Half-Life: Alyx:

“Set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2, Alyx Vance and her father Eli secretly mount the resistance to the brutal occupation of Earth by a mysterious alien race known as The Combine. As Alyx, players take the fight to the Combine to save the future of humanity.

Half-Life: Alyx was designed from the ground up for Virtual Reality and features all of the hallmarks of a classic Half-Life game: world exploration, puzzle-solving, visceral combat, and an intricately woven story that connects it all with the characters iconic to the Half-Life universe.”

You can check it out for yourself below.

Half-Life: Alyx was announced earlier this week by developer and publisher Valve. The game will be available for VR platforms only but isn’t exclusive to Valve’s Index. It will instead be playable on all PC VR headsets.
