Middle-Earth: Shadow of War is one of the most anticipated games of the year and is the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2014 game Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor. Shadow of War will see Talion return to the fight and the well received Nemesis System from the first game has been expanded and improved upon. From what we’ve seen from gameplay videos, Shadow of War features even more intense combat, beastly enemies to defeat, lands to explore, and awesome sieges to take part in.
One of the small criticisms of the first game was that it didn’t feature much endgame content. Once your quest was over there wasn’t much reason to stick around. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case for Shadow of War. As EuroGamer reports, Shadow of War will feature a game mode that won’t become apparent until late in the game called Shadow Wars.
The main story will require the player to lay siege to and take various enemy strongholds in epic sieges. Once all of these have been captured, the fight isn’t over. The tables will then turn and players will have to defend their strongholds from being retaken by the enemy.
Only once you have seen off the waves of ever increasingly difficult enemies will your domination of the lands be complete and the true ending unlocked. It’s unknown exactly what this true ending will be but it apparently ties directly into the events of The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
It’s nice to know that, even once your main quest is complete, you will still have to stay vigilant if you want to continue to rule the lands you have captured. Given that it’s endgame content, the enemies that besiege you will no doubt be tough and will require you to use all the skills you’ve learned up to that point.
Middle-Earth: Shadow of War is set to be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 10.
