Square Enix announced today that Life Is Strange: Before the Storm will have a licensed soundtrack that features music from the popular British indie-folk band Daughter. Not only that, the band has also written an original song for the game, titled Burn It Down, and you can check it out down below.
This collaboration isn’t really a surprise, considering the fact that Square Enix and Deck Nine opted to use Daughter’s Numbers as the trailer song for Before the Storm’s debut showing. Daughter’s music and style is pretty fitting for a game like Life Is Strange as well, and this was definitely a good selection on Square Enix’s part. Even the lyrics for Burn It Down are easily related to Chloe’s personality in the game.
‘”We are so proud to have written the soundtrack for “Life Is Strange: Before the Storm”, said Elena Tonra, Daughter Lead Singer. “It was our first experience working on an original soundtrack, and are so honoured to have been given the opportunity to work with the team. We loved the story on first read as it centres around realistic female lead characters who are emotional, intelligent, sensitive and badass in equal measure. I think the characters themselves have really inspired the soundscapes we have created. It was a pleasure to be involved.”‘
In all honesty, this is probably the best video game music collaboration I’ve seen since EA and DICE got Chvrches to write Warning Call for Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst.
Life Is Strange: Before the Storm episode 1 is set to be released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on August 31.
