The ghostly choir returns

We’re finally in October, the month of release for Halo 5. Following a menu music leak last week, the main theme for the new entry in the acclaimed sci-fi series has now leaked as well. The YouTube channel Halo Memes managed to get their hands on the track titled “Halo Canticles”.

The theme is strongly reminiscent of the original theme from the first Halo game, with a ghostly choir serenade before moving into a heavier orchestral piece. It provides an eerie sense of nostalgia for the series that is now 14 years old.

This main theme as well as a majority of the soundtrack was composed by Kazuma Jinnouchi, who previously contributed to the score of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

Halo 5 will release on October 27 for Xbox One. The full 39-song soundtrack will release on October 30, through physical discs as well as digital distribution.  Recently 343 Industries announced that work on Halo 6 had already begun. Season two of 343’s narrative podcast series leading up to Halo 5, Hunt the Truth, also kicked off in September.  What do you think of Halo 5’s new theme? Does it bring back a surge of Halo memories? Let us know in the comments.
