Bethesda Softworks is adding a battle royale mode to Fallout 76, the company announced today during its E3 press conference.
The new game mode is called Nuclear Winter and will feature 52 players in four-player squads gathering weapons and leveling up exclusive perks to claim the spot as overseer of the vacant Vault 51.
The battle royale mode will have player versus environment features like NPC enemies and the ability to bring the C.A.M.P.S. built in Adventure mode into Nuclear Winter.
Nuclear Winter will also have nukes, which players can activate by finding nuclear codes and nuclear briefcases to use against squads of players.
Bethesda did not announce when it will be released, but Nuclear Winter will be free for all Fallout 76 players with a “sneak peek” of the mode starting on Monday, June 10. Bethesda is also holding a free trial of the game for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One from June 10 until Monday, June 17.
Bethesda also announced on stage a new update coming to Fallout 76 this fall that would significantly change the game with new content.
The free Wastelanders update will add human NPCs, involved questlines, and dialogue choices. The community severely criticized Fallout 76 when it launched last year for lacking these elements since these features are a major part of the Fallout franchise.
