Fans clearly loved the game’s stylish visuals and intense action, despite reports of server and matchmaking issues. Dragon Ball FighterZ, which launched last week, broke the record for the fastest Dragon Ball game to hit the two million mark. This number includes digital sales as well.

Dragon Ball FighterZ sees the Dragon Ball game series shift to a standard 2D fighter after the Xenoverse series, integrating head-to-head multiplayer that allows fighters to swap between three characters from across Dragon Ball’s history. The game also features a fairly in-depth single-player mode with an entirely new story.

A mysterious clone army invades the planet, incapacitating many of the world’s most powerful heroes and taking away their powers. The player character, who has a strange psychic link with Goku, must work with the series’ classic characters to fight back and uncover the mystery behind this psychic link and the clone army’s plan.

Dragon Ball FighterZ impressive sales performance, along with Monster Hunter World’s own record-breaking sales, mark an excellent financial and critical week for Japanese releases. This news could also have an impact on Bandai Namco’s decision to bring the game to the Nintendo Switch, a decision the company has stated it’s considering if there is enough demand.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is available on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. You can find our review of the game here.
