Fans of disturbing dungeon crawling, rejoice! According to an FAQ with creator Edmund McMillen, The Binding of Isaac may be getting some DLC in the near future.

Towards the end of the post (which also covers McMillen’s most recent game The End is Nigh, his family life, and the eventual console port for The Binding of Isaac’s expansion Afterbirth+), McMillen turned to the future of The Binding of Isaac with one final question. His answer indicates that something new and exciting could be coming up for fans of his rogue-like.

The question gets at the core of what many fans have been wondering: will The Binding of Isaac have any more DLC? McMillen’s reply is telling. “I did say many times this was going to be the last Isaac DLC and at the time I strongly believed it, but there seems to be something pretty cool on the horizon, it’s creeping up slowly”, McMillen said. “It’s familiar but a bit different and it’s being held up by a group of people.”

Whatever this DLC is, it’s exciting enough to draw McMillen back into developing new content for The Binding of Isaac, which is good news for PC and console fans of this dark take on dungeon crawling.

The game, based on the biblical story of Isaac, puts players in the role of the titular character. Stripped of all his possessions and locked in his bedroom by a mother who wants to sacrifice him to God, Isaac flees to his basement where he must explore, collect items, and face hideous enemies and bosses by firing tears at them.

Just last year the game came to the Switch and was followed shortly and surprisingly by The End is Nigh, another brutally difficult gauntlet of death from McMillen. So while there’s still plenty of mystery surrounding this new DLC, we know it will be one hell of a weird ride.
