Dontnod New IP

Life is Strange Developer Dontnod and Bandai Namco Have Partnered to Create a New IP

Could a Life is Strange spin-off be in the works?

Following a series of other game announcements earlier today from the publisher, Bandai Namco has officially announced a partnership with Life is Strange developer Dontnod Entertainment that will see the creation of a new narrative-driven IP. A teaser image can be found above.

Though the project’s title, release platforms and digital or physical availability have yet to be disclosed, the new IP will have players explore a fictional American city with “a fair dose of investigation” involved. In production since 2016, more details will be shared when the project is ready next year.

Though Dontnod has two other games currently in development (the sequel to the aforementioned Life is Strange and action RPG Vampyr, the latter of which is slated for November this year), Bandai Namco assured fans that development of this new IP won’t affect Life is Strange 2 and that the project is being developed by a separate team of senior developers “from various horizons.”

This news comes as the latest initiative that the publisher is embarking on, as it wants new IPs to make up half of its entire business. Starting with Little Nightmares and moving to Get Even and now studio Dontnod, the publisher sees huge growth potential from this side of the market going forward.

Not much else was divulged about the game itself other than the fact that eager players can expect “triple-A quality”, “a very emotional experience” and a dive into the “psychology of the characters.” Though it sounds a lot like a Life is Strange spin-off, we’ll just have to wait and see what Dontnod has in store for us.
