Mighty No. 9 has a long, complicated history and hasn’t even been released yet. After several delays and months of fan complaints, the game’s release is seemingly settled on February release date. Creator Keiji Inafune is still confident that the game will do well. He’s so confident that he’s already planning a sequel to Mighty No. 9.

In an interview on the PS I Love You XOXO podcast, Inafune answered questions about his upcoming project and its may delays. He says that players will feel like they got their money’s worth when they finally play the game, in spite of all the negative press. Nine minutes into the interview, Inafune reveals that a sequel is in early planning stages.

We’re already thinking about a sequel to the game, and the director himself is already writing some of the scripts and gathering some ideas. We don’t know when yet, but definitely there will be a sequel coming sometime.

In the interview, Inafune compares Mighty No. 9 to the Mega Man games that inspired it and gives his insight on the game development process in Japan.

The game is still a few months away, but it seems that Inafune and Comcept have plans to turn it into a long-running franchise. Mighty No. 9 could run as long as Mega Man did, but getting support for another Kickstarter will definitely be harder the second time.
