Doom PC Requirements, Install Size, and More Revealed

Bethesda has announced a bunch of details with regards to its hellish shooter, Doom, ahead of its launch next week.

The news comes via a post on Bethesda’s blog, detailing PC requirements, install sizes for both PC and consoles, preloading times, and game launch unlock and server launch times. Oh, and they also dropped the rather gruesome launch trailer for the game, too.

Starting off with PC system requirements, the minimum and recommended specs for your system in order to play Doom are as below.

Minimum:

  • Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit versions); Intel Core i5-2400/AMD FX-8320 or better;
  • 8 GB RAM; 55 GB free HDD space; NVIDIA GTX 670 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or better
  • Contains a single disc. Download of additional files from Steam (total amount 45 GB) is required to run the game.
  • Requires Steam activation and broadband internet connection for Multiplayer and SnapMap.

Recommended:

  • Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit versions); Intel Core i7-3770/AMD FX-8350 or better;
  • 8 GB RAM; 55 GB free HDD space; NVIDIA GTX 970 4GB/AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB or better
  • Contains a single disc. Download of additional files from Steam (total amount 45 GB) is required to run the game.
  • Requires Steam activation and broadband internet connection for Multiplayer and SnapMap.

As for drivers, Bethesda suggests checking back on the page in a weeks time when there should be links to the officially supported AMD and NVIDIA drivers for the game’s release.

As for when the game will officially unlock and the servers will launch, well Bethesda have got it pretty locked down to as close as you can get it for each platform. All of the times for when Doom unlocks in your region are listed below.

PC:

  • Australia/New Zealand @ 12 AM AEST
  • North America @ 12 AM ET
  • Europe @ 12 AM GMT +1
  • Japan/South Korea/Rest of Asia – 12 AM Japan

Xbox One:

  • New Zealand @ 12 AM local time
  • Australia @ 12 AM local time
  • North America @ 12 AM ET
  • Europe @ 12 AM local time
  • Asia @ 12 AM local time.
  • Japan @ 12 AM local time on May 19

PS4:

  • New Zealand @ 12 AM local time
  • Australia @ 12 AM local time
  • North America @ 12 AM ET
  • Europe @ 12 AM local time
  • Asia 12 AM local time.
  • Japan 12 AM local time on May 19

As for when the game can be pre-loaded onto your platform of choice, any Xbox One owners out there can already preload Doom. As for PC and PlayStation 4 owners, you’ll be able to preload Doom starting at 12 AM EST on May 11. In order to make sure you’ve got enough space for Bethesda’s shooter, you’ll need to make sure you’ve got 45 GB of free space on PC, and 50 GB on PS4 and Xbox One.
