The Evil Within was originally released back in 2014 and received strong reviews for its intense horror and action gameplay. Those of you who enjoyed the original game will have been pleased to see a sequel announced at last week’s E3.

The new game will follow on from where the original left off and players will once again play as the rugged detective Sebastian Castellanos. As GameTransfers reports, according to Bethesda’s Pete Hines, The Evil Within 2’s story will be a redemption arc for Sebastian.

“The Evil Within 2 starts not long after the events of the first game, and it’s basically Sebastian at rock bottom. Since the events of the first game, his life has kind of completely fallen apart. Nobody really believes him about what he says took place in the asylum, he’s become an alcoholic, and he’s basically at the bottom of the barrel,” he said.

Developer Tango Game Works’ John Johanas stated: “We definitely wanted to have a game that focused more on characters, more on story. We put a lot of effort into it this time. Sebastian is coming back- he’s a much more relatable character. And you get to really journey with him from the beginning of the game to the end, and see his evolution as a character. Like Pete said, it’s a redemption story, so you really get the quality out of there.”

It looks like The Evil Within 2 will tell a more human story than its predecessor. It is set to be released this year on October 13 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
