Winter is Coming to Destiny: Rise of Iron; New Details on Cosmodrome’s Snowy Makeover

Winter is coming this fall.
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

Today during a livestream focusing on exploring the Cosmodrome Destiny: Rise of Iron, Bungie showed off just how much popular, previously explored areas have changed since the events of the beginning of the game and The Taken War. In case you couldn’t miss the stream, here’s what you missed.

The Cosmodrome is changing.. for the worse.

During the stream, Bungie revisited areas that can be explored currently through Patrol on Earth, and should be familiar to Destiny players. Specifically they visited The Divide, and we got to see how the landscape is now different. The most obvious thing is the snow. There’s lots of snow now in the Cosmodrome. Winter is coming this September that’s for sure.

There’s also new passageways ripped open by the Devil Splicers (the new SIVA infected Fallen faction) within the old areas we’ve grown accustomed to. You can see Fallen shanks peacefully welding away at buildings doing something shady.

Time has passed and it’s noticeable.

Another cool change shown during the Rise of Iron livestream is how not only is the Cosmodrome physically different looking now thanks to the snow, and the new areas, but time has passed too, and our old good deeds are visible. For example, remember the Devil Walker public event in The Divide, the one that every long time player has killed about 1 million times? Well finally, it sits there broken and destroyed in the place where it spawned so many times.

Also, the console that you needed to interact with during the Septiks Prime strike (the one that Ghost needed to fiddle with to break down the dangerous laser trap), is now completed hacked and taken over by SIVA (see above). Which brings us to the next point revealed during the stream.

SIVA and the Devil Splicers don’t want to be friends. (No New Friends)

SIVA is 110% on team bad guy, and is out to get everyone. SIVA is a self-replicating nanotech that has gone crazy. It’s both synthetic and organic, and you can see how it has changed the Fallen House of Devils. SIVA can hack computers, and physically manifests itself all over the Cosmodrome. Also, the Devil Walkers and SIVA have displaced other Fallen and Hive enemies that previously hung around, forcing them out of their comfort zone.

The Plaguelands weren’t shown, but it’s much worse than the Cosmodrome.

Bungie was hesitant to show off any new new areas, backing up as they almost “accidentally” entered one. However, they did say that although the Cosmodrome looks pretty screwed up and infected by SIVA, the Plaguelands will be much worse in terms of how much SIVA has transformed the area.

That was just about everything shown off during the July 20 Destiny: Rise of Iron stream. It was less about earth shattering news, and more about just teasing what’s to come. There will be another preview stream during Gamescom in August. Also, they revealed the new Gjallarwing sparrow, which looks sweet AF.
